181 Front St., New Dundee Drop by and say hi!

About us

Dundee Pottery is a conglomerate of pottery and pottery supplies, houses a small gallery and gift shop, studio, and offers workshops, lessons, parties. Owned and operated by Rosemary and a small army of friends, volunteers and employees, we are a pottery and clay educational resource for the community.
The doors are always open, come say 'Hi' to Loosey and Frodo!

Also located within the building is The Fiederlein Gallery. A beautifully curated gallery with hand made, locally sourced art, homegoods and giftware.

Hours

The gallery and gift shop are open by chance and when classes are running in the studio which is generally:

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6-9,
    Thursday through Sunday 11-4:00.

If the lights are on and the door is open, people at work, pop in! We do love having visitors and someone will inevitably try to convince you to take a lesson.

We are typically closed long weekends, PD days and holidays. If there’s a change to the schedule and we are closed or open for a special event we post it on Instagram @dundeepottery. You can text and call us at 519-696-2409. I’m not strongly attached to my phone and the response time isn’t likely to be immediate. You can email us dundeepottery@icloud.com, I check emails mornings and evenings.

I’m a mother, grandparent, pet owner, friend, lover of weather and woods. Occasionally one of these things will unexpectedly summon me away from being a shopkeeper.

What you need to know before pottery class

Everything you need to know to get started.

What to wear

Dress comfortably.

You'll need short nails, hair tied back, and it's best to remove jewelry, watches etc. The clay does wash out but old clothes are recommended. The studio can be cool, so dress in layers.

What to bring

A can do attitude.

You'll need a large towel, an apron if you have one and 3 songs to add to the playlist, a story or two (true or otherwise).

Really short nails, dress in layers - it can be cool. Extra footwear on wet, sloppy days.

General notes, rules and etiquette

As you progress through lessons you'll move from simple to more complex forms and be challenged to develop your skills. Novice or experienced potter, you can expect to cut many of your pots in half as part of the learning process.

All of our lesson fees include clay, use of tools, and instruction. We keep our classes small and incorporate all levels with an emphasis on setting your own goals.
For our 8 week programs the first six weeks of the session are dedicated to making while weeks seven and eight are spent on trimming, waxing and glazing.
The number of pots taken home is limited -approximately 2 cubic feet (space in the gas kiln) is allotted to each student per session.
While we try to be accommodating when helping you make up a class, it is your responsibility to make sure you finish all classes by the end of the session, and any unused hours are not transferable or refundable.

Glaze firing costs

Rosemary can answer any questions that might come up with regards to measuring.

Width + Height / 2 = Glaze firing cost

Empty bowls

Returning 2025

Dundee Pottery works with other local businesses and organizations to host a fundraising dinner for Haiti.
When you buy a ticket to Empty Bowls, you get an evening of community and entertainment, a delicious soup, a handmade pottery bowl - and an opportunity to support sustainable growth and change in Haiti.
Funds raised by Empty Bowls will be used to support MCC's tree planting efforts in Haiti. MCC (Mennonite Central Committe) has had a presence in Hiati since 1958, they strive to work with local groups and communities to meet the goals identified in that community.

Dundee Artisan Festival

May 11, 2024 - 10am to 6pm

We all love making, creating, "craft"-ing! Making things with our hands not only brings joy, but has the potential to change the world.
Historically, industry and the manufacturing of goods happened in communities, by talented local people whose skill contributed to their communities, supported their families, and fed their souls. Community members of all ages were engaged in this process – think cobblers, bakers, carpenters, potters. Engagement with craft motivates, inspires, and delights!
My hope is to bring together diverse crafts and talents through the "Dundee Artisan Festival", where we can share our skill, knowledge and the "craft" that gives us life.
Visit the Dundee Artisan Festival website.

Studio open house

December 13, 14 and 15, 2024

Join us December 13, 14 or 15th! Learn about the process of pottery and see the results of learning new skills. Ask questions, watch demos – we'd love to share! As always the kettle is on and treats are on hand.
While in the studio, shop locally for Christmas gifts in our gallery.

Love my time at the studio. Rosemary creates a great community and she’s an awesome teacher.

Love the vibes of Dundee pottery! A real sense of calm, a stress free environment. Rosemary is a real treat! Would recommend to everyone! 5 stars
